Hydraulic cranes are very simple by design but can perform staggering tasks that would otherwise seem impossible.
Old mechanical cranes have successfully replaced by these hydraulic powered crane. A crane is a type of machine, generally equipped with a hoist, wire ropes or chains, and sheaves, that can be used both to lift and lower materials and to move them horizontally. It is mainly used for lifting heavy things and transporting them to other places. It uses one or more simple machines to create mechanical advantage and thus move loads beyond the normal capability of a man. The crane technology has been developed and now most of the companies are using Hydraulic cranes, which helps to save time, space, and manpower than mechanical type crane.
The main mechanism of cranes are as per swape which used to lift water from lake for irrigation purpose in village side. Later it was innovated as derrick in construction field.

Because of the construction boom in industrial Now a days cranes are very largly used to lift heavy equipments in mechanical and civil projects.
Safety precautions
1) We have to understand the crane lifting capacity we have to check the load chart which has been provided by the crane supplier before lifting any items.
2) Crane jack area should be compacted, If required place steel plate below jack.
3) hydraulic jack should be proper checked by supervisor.
4) Hydraulic leakage should be rectified.
5) Proper communication between crane operator & rigging foremen.
6) Check the wind. It may effect for safe lifting.
7) Rigging people to be properly inducted before start the job.
8) Minimize the manpower around the lifting boom swing area.
9) Hook & lifting tools to be properly checked by the engineer. If required it should be tested from authorized person for 1.5times from the mentioned capacity.
10) Proper welding/Bolting to be done before releasing the crane.
